Rolade Daging (Beef Roulade)

The 1st time I had this kind of roulade was when I lived in Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. It was at an eatery, for university students especially.

It was good, but I thought it did not have beef, or if it did, it was only a little beef, but a whole lot more of bread and breadcrumbs or even flour 😛

It did not stop me from getting them at the same eatery though, but only when I had money, as it was not the cheapest on the menu haha

I added omelet in the center of my roulade just to make it prettier rather than more protein actually. Yep, I am weird like that haha But of course, more protein is better for the two little boys who are growing at this house 😉

The boys been making some music for me to use as a background for my Youtube videos. You can hear it on the video below 😀

2 eggs,
2 tbsp olive oil

Heat oil, make omelet

350 g ground beef
2 eggs
2 slice of breads
1 large onion
2 tsp Vegeta powder

Blender all ingredients
Spread onto aluminum foil
Place omelet, roll
Steam for 45-60 mins

1 egg
Enough bread crumbs
Cooking oil

Heat oil
Unwrap roulade, roll into breadcrumbs
Roll into beaten egg, and roll it again on breadcrumbs
Fry for 3 minutes on all sides

Sauce:

1 tbsp margarine
1 tbsp flour
Vegeta powder, white pepper powder, allspice powder, freshly grated nutmeg – all to taste
450 ml beef broth
2 tbsp sweet soy sauce (or more if you like sweeter sauce)
1 tbsp flour mixed with 2 tbsp water

Melt margarine, stir in flour
Add in flavoring then pour in broth
Add in sweet soy sauce and thicken with flour solution

Serve roulade with sauce! – which I did not take any pictures while making, but I did record it 😉

Bakwan Udang (Shrimp Fritters)

I make all sorts of fritters in this house, which mainly would have corn, but not the following, I ran out of canned corn in the pantry haha

Savory fritters are simple to make and you can serve them as is, as a snack, dipped with your favorite hot sauce, or as a side dish for lunch/dinner, along with warm rice, veggies, and fried chicken, maybe 😀

The boys have been making music using this application called Groovepad, and they made them for me, they said, to be used on one of my cooking or baking videos for Youtube haha

Click the video below to sample their music 😉 But for now, here is the recipe for the fritters!

1 c bread flour
1/4 c cornstarch
1/2 tsp each garlic powder and onion powder
2 tsp Vegeta powder
1 1/2 c water
2 eggs
225 g beansprouts
8 button mushrooms, grated
200 g cookes shrimp, chopped
5 green onions
Vegetable oil for frying

Method

Mix all ingredients

Drop by 1/4 c into preheated vegetable oil (on medium heat)

Turning once and drain on paper towel!

You can have this fritters with fresh bird eye chilies too, by the way. Extra HOT, hot, hot 😀

I also love having them with peanut sauce, yum!
