Dark Chocolate Buns


  • 1 1/4 c unsweetened almond milk lukewarm
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • In a 1 c measurement cup spoon in 1 tbsp Dutch cocoa powder and 3 tbsp icing sugar, then spoon in enough flour to fill up the cup
  • 2 c flour
  • dairy free chocolate chips
  • dark chocolate bars


  • In a bowl, mix milk, sugar and yeast, let stand to bloom for 5 mins
  • In a large bowl, mix flour and cocoa powder mixture
  • Pour in bloomed yeast into flour mixture, knead
  • Cover with cling wrap and let stand in warm area for 20 mins
  • Divide into 10 balls @75 g each
  • Roll flat each ball, fill with choc chips, shape into fishes
  • Preheat steamer, then work on the other 5 balls, fill with dark chocolate bars
  • Steam buns for 8-10 mins
