Coffee Brownies


  • 1 tbsp instant coffee granules dissolved in 200 ml hot water
  • 200 ml cooking oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 200 g sugar
  • 200 g flour
  • 40 g cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp hot chocolate powder such as from Tim Horton’s or chocolate malt drink such as Milo
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • enough chopped walnut/pecan/peanuts/sesame seeds whichever


  • Prepare steamer pot, bring water to boil on high heat, then lower the heat to medium while preparing batter
  • Mix coffee with cooking oil, set aside
  • Mix eggs and sugar using wire whisk, set aside
  • Combine dry powder well
  • Into eggs mixture, stir in dry mixture and coffee mixture alternating each other. Start with adding dry then wet then dry
  • Pour batter into mold, sprinkle with chopped walnuts and steam for 30 minutes
  • Cool on rack
