Classic Whole Wheat Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups all purpose flour or whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare 2 parchment lined cookie sheets.
  • In a large bowl cream the powdered sugar and butter. Add the egg and vanilla. Next add the flour and baking powder.
  • Cover and chill for at least 2 hours.
  • Working with half the dough at a time, roll out on a floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness and cut into your favorite shapes. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden. Cool and decorate.

Frosting

  • Beat 2 egg whites room temperature with 3 cups of icing sugar, 1/4 heaping tsp + 1/4 scant tsp of cream of tartar and a little of salt until it reach the consistency that you wish, soft or firm peak. You can add vanilla essence, lemon juice or other flavoring and color you wish
