Rainbow Soft Bagels

Ingredients

Dough

  • 4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/4 c lukewarm water
  • 3 1/4 c flour
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • gel food coloring

Baking Soda Solution

  • 1/2 c baking soda
  • 4 c hot boiling water

Instructions

  • Sprinkle sugar on water followed with yeast. Let bloom for 5-10 mins, stir
  • In a bowl, mix 3 1/4 c flour with 1/4 c sugar and 3 tsp salt. Make a well in center
  • Pour yeast mixture and add 1 tbsp oil, knead
  • Cover and let rise on warm area for half H
  • After half H, you will see that dough is rising already, punch down
  • Divide dough into 4 portions and add enough gel food coloring to each of them (I use blue, green, purple, red and orange) - about 3-5 drop/tip of toothpick, knead
  • Let dough rise again for another 30 mins in warm place
  • Knead to combine
  • Preheat oven to 450 F
  • Once kneaded, slice pretzels into 8 portions
  • Roll each portion into ropes and bath them for a second in baking soda solution
  • Place pretzels on baking sheet and sprinkle with coarse sea salt
  • Bake pretzels for 8 minutes
