Spicy Beef Stew

Rendang bumbu pedas


  • 2 1/2 kg lean roast beef cubed
  • enough water
  • 2 envelopes of Indofood' Instant Rendang Spice
  • 1 handful coriander
  • 2 tsps cumin
  • 1 tsp fennel
  • 4 star anis
  • 2-3 heaping tsps Hungarian Vegeta seasoning substitute with Royco or beef broth powder
  • 3-5 heaping tsps finely ground red hot pepper bubuk cabai/hot pepper powder
  • 2 cans coconut milk


  • Place cubed beef in the pot, cover with enough water, bring to boil and cook until tender; reserving some of the water (soup)
  • Meanwhile, grind well coriander, cumin, fennel, and star anis; set aside
  • When beef are tender and water lessen; add in a can of coconut milk, stir well.
  • Add in ground spices, hot pepper powder, and seasoning; stir well
  • Lastly add in the other can of coconut milk; stir well and cook until thickened and somewhat "dry"; and beef are well done.
